Philosophy of Art Education

Art is all around us - in the books we read, the music we listen to, the movies we see, right down to the packaging on every product we see and commercial we are exposed to. Becoming more aware of this visual culture, and of its intended effect on us, is key to our understanding of our past and present, our world, our selves, and our choices as we move through life. Art education is the best source for gaining an understanding of these images and reducing their power over our students. The arts teach us to be intuitive, spontaneous, reflective, patient, persistent, creative, communicative in a clear and concise way, open to keen observation, and to embrace lifelong learning.
